London To Suilven | Alastair Humphreys

When launching our new Brompton Explore Edition, we knew exactly who to call to test it out.

We asked adventurer Alastair Humphreys if he had any ideas for an adventure that started from the city and took you to the great outdoors with a Brompton.

His answer?

Of course.

After spending a beautiful week in Scotland riding his bike, Humphreys looked up at the extraordinary shark fin skyline of Suilven and longed to camp on the summit.

Amongst the clutter of To-Do lists and empty tea mugs, a small, framed relief map of Suilven rests on Humphreys's desk. When Brompton contacted him to showcase the freedom that the folding bicycles give, he “knew this was [his] opportunity to turn the dream into action at last”.

“Oftentimes the trouble with modern life is not a lack of enthusiasm for challenges nor inspiration for exciting ideas.

The problem is how busy we all are, the real difficulty comes in separating the urgent from the important and then making adventure happen.”

– Alastair Humphreys

Teaming up with friend and filmmaker Temujin Doran, the two set out on an overnight sleeper train up from London.

From wading across rivers to packrafting through them, from encountering an adder to the burst of the camping stove coming to life to prepare that coveted cup of coffee, this video is the result of a beautiful city escape years in the making.
